Expressive language refers to your child's ability to convey their thoughts, feelings and needs via words, gestures or signs. You may have concerns about your child's vocabulary, the number of words they are saying, or how they put their words together to make sentences.
Receptive language refers to your child's ability to understand the messages of others. Your may have concerns related to receptive language including: your child not following instructions, providing "funny" or irrelevant responses to questions or not responding at all.
Speech sounds refer to how your child's words sound, or how easily they are understood. You may have concerns about your child substituting some sounds for others or not being able to understand what they are saying.
Learning to read and write is an important skill to learn in a young child’s life. Success with reading and writing makes school more enjoyable and increases rates of success at school. At Foothills Speech Pathology, we implement a systematic, synthetic phonics approach to literacy instruction and support. This is in line with the highest level of evidence-based literacy intervention..
Early intervention refers to intervention for children younger than 5 years old. More often than not, in Speech Pathology this can be related to late talking, limited play skills, decreased comprehension or decreased length of sentences or ongoing interaction.

Foothills Speech Pathology offer varied school holiday group programs to allow children opportunities to practice and implement their communication skills and build confidence and connection in a safe and supported environment, with qualified and experiences Speech Pathologists, Music Therapists and Occupational Therapists.
"Let's Get Prep'd" is our School Readiness Program designed to provide children who are preparing to attend primary school, with the opportunity to learn, demonstrate, and consolidate skills deemed necessary for starting primary school.
It is an 8 week program (2-hour session per week) run by our Speech Pathologists and other visiting Allied Health clinicians.
